Entirely Acrylics on Gallery Wrapped Stretched Canvas
1.5 inch Finished Edges - Original Painting
This is solid acrylic paint, a real breakthrough in transforming paint into a literal 3 dimensional sculpted form off the surface of the canvas. ?Paint stands off the surface here at an amazing one inch high... an unheard of height in all of impasto history!
This piece also had a 2nd major phenomenon occur by literal accident when made with a transparent color and then taken out in the sun to photograph; it wasn't until taking the photos back in on the computer and blown up on the bigger screen to find a dazzling array of colors, not only in the translucent part of the flowers, but when the sun shown through the clearish paint, it made a spectacular kaleidoscope of colors that formed the flower's shadow!
Ruth was reprimanded by a gallery as not being skilled enough to draw the shadows and to go home and practice. That was the whole point of this sculptural form... to NOT have to painstakingly draw flat boringness when this incredible dimension makes it own shadows and 3-dimensionally.!
When you move the painting, the shadow moves. When you tilt the flower, the shadow starts to elongate across the canvas. No other painting in history can be this interactive. As a result of this insulting gallery experience, Ruth went out and formed her own domain name.
There is another neat part about the transparent paint when cut... it has a look like glass but is really flexible paint, so no one will get hurt on this painting! The fragmented bits with their colors, shadows, dimension, & placement, all add a magical dreamy feel to this piece.
There is one drawback with the transparent paint... it seems to fade slightly and not be quite as brilliant than when new; but 8 years later, photos were still able to capture the brilliant colorful shadows as seen here on this page. On the print page there is the most brilliance captured, if you want that as a print. It might appeal to a candy shop owner.
But if you want a historical piece that made all of sculpted history, this is the one and only piece to get. It will not show the brilliant shadows inside a building of course, nor outside on a cloudy day. The colorful shadows appear in bright sunlight. The reason the colors fade with the transparent paint is because there is less pigment holding the bond of color together. It could be a neat experiment to make a painting with all kinds of colors just for the sake of photographing the most brilliant prints.
Sides have finished edges with no need to frame, and comes complete with having been wired for hanging on the back.
